Ilocos Norte: A tourist haven in Ilocos Philippines

Ilocos,Philippines- Ilocos Norte is one of the 82 provinces of the Philippines. It is situated in the northern part of the country (Ilocos Region), which is around 440 kilometers away from Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

Only few are aware that this province is a good tourist destination. To many, tourism in the country is more associated with widely known tourist spots like Boracay, Banaue Rice Terraces, Bohol’s Chocolate Hills and more. Ilocos Norte, however has its own unique tourism package to offer.

Here are two reasons why visiting the place is worth all the travel time and effort.

Presence of historical places

Ilocos Norte boasts the presence of historical places. The remnants of the Spanish colony are very evident in the area. You will witness old structures like churches constructed in 1593 but still in shape at present. Among the popular churches are situated in Bacarra, Laoag City, Paoay and San Nicolas. Another ancient structure way back 1612 is the Sinking Tower of Laoag. The tower has earned such reputation because it has consistently sunk into the ground through time.

Presence of fine beaches

The town of Pagudpud is known for its white sand beaches consisting of the beaches of Pansian, Maira-ira and Saud. This area is often called the “Boracay of the North”. Coconut palm-backed Saud beach is where the resorts are located. Maira-Ira, otherwise known as Blue Lagoon, is in the farther east. Deserted Pansian beach is still away farther, close to the border of Cagayan province. If you opt to stay by the beach in the southern part of Ilocos Norte, you can try Gaang Beach Cove in Currimao with its wide area of clean beaches and calm waters which is a common feedback of picnickers and beach lovers.
