Bangus Festival activities bared

DAGUPAN CITY, March 3 (PIA) – The much awaited Bangus Festival here will have its grand opening on April 8 with various events.

Festival coordinators Maximo ‘Beep Beep’ Tan and Alexander Siapno said a motorcade will signal the start of the festivities followed immediately by a mass. A photo contest and a ‘Bangus Ed Carosa’ parade will cap the day.

The next day, April 9, a River Cruise, shootfest, badminton game and bangus art exhibit will take place. Dagupan’s Best, which will showcase the best products of the Dagupan, will also be opened.

A fishing contest with the theme ‘Mabilay Lay Ilog Ko’ (My River Restored) will be held the next Monday followed by a mangrove planting on Tuesday.

The streets of Galvan and Zamora will be filled with revelers on April 15 with the ‘Halo-Halo Fest’ and ‘Pigar-Pigar Fest’ followed Bangus Festival 2011by a drum and lyre exhibition and contest at the city Museum.

‘Bangus Run Takbo para sa Kabuhayan’ and a golf tournament is scheduled on the 16th capped by a ‘yugyugan’ or dance party in the evening.

A drag race, kick boxing, boxing and ‘Langoy Bangus’ contests will fill the third week of the celebration. No activities will be done, however, from April 20-23 in observance of the Holy Week.

Festivities will resume on Easter Sunday with the Easter egg hunt, wall climbing and talent show.The new City Seal will be unveiled on Monday followed by a ‘Bikini Open’ at night.

Miss Gay Festival Queen and a concert sponsored by a radio station will be held on the 26th and 27th respectively. The spectacular street dancing parade dubbed as ‘Gilon Gilon ed Dalan’ will keep every Dagupeno on their feet on April 29 followed by the Ms. Magic Pageant sponsored by a top mall in the city.

‘Bangus Rodeo’ and the ‘101 Ways to Cook Bangus’ will surely attract cooks and food aficionados on the 29th while youth and band lovers will enjoy the night with the ‘Battle of the Bands.’

The Bangusan street party or ‘Kalutan Ed Dalan’ (Street Bangus Grill) will be back to its original site at the downtown area on April 30 capped with a grand fireworks display. An off- road mountain bike and marathon ride will keep runners busy in the morning.

The next day, May 1, the traditional ‘Pista’y Dayat’ (Sea Festival) will take center stage. A Mass will be held to thank the Lord for the bountiful blessings from the sea. This also signals the last day of the festivities. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)
