Vergara commends tourism partners for sustaining tourism industry in Baguio
Baguio City (5 September) — With the report of Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim that the effect of the hostage crisis in the tourism industry could last up to three months, the local tourism department is preparing for marketing strategies to be done.
According to DOT Cordillera Regional Director Purificacion Molintas, the Baguio Tourism Council and the other tourism stakeholders in the city are doing their best in the promotion of Baguio City. The latest offering is the 7th Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Weekend by the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio slated from September 2-4.
Congressman Bernardo Vergara praised the tourism partners saying the city is very lucky to have active tourism stakeholders that still continue with events such as the HRT Weekend for the promotion of Baguio.
The HRT weekend which featured the largest pasta bowl at the SM City Atrium on Friday drew thousands of tourists in Baguio, Vergara said. This certainly uplifts the tourism industry of the city, he added.
In 2004, HRAB highlighted the Baguio Country Club’s famous raisin bread and produced the “Longest Raisin Bread” measuring 1.2 kilometers, 2005, the blocks of ice were carved into perfection dubbed as “The Ice Castles”.
In 2006, a 4.5-kilometer long “Longest Baguio Original Longanisa” was paraded along Session Road and in 2007, the “Largest Wedding Cake” was baked.
Last year, the ” Baguio’s Largest Pizza” measuring 22 feet in diameter highlighted the HRT weekend.
Meanwhile the Department of Tourism is constantly checking on region’s hotels and other tourism establishments for any reports on reservation cancelations. (PIA)
