Baguio City (10 April) — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-CAR) is now busy preparing for the nationwide Labor Day Jobs Fair, this was stressed by DOLE Regional Director Atty. Ana Dione in an interview, Thursday.
According to Dione DOLE is now involved in Information, Education and Communication campaign for the series of mini jobs fair scheduled throughout the region and for the Labor Day Jobs fair, which will be held at the Baguio Convention Center on May 1 and 2.
“On-line pre-registration is now available, applicants can now log-on to phil-job.net, the official job portal of the government being run by DOLE. For those in Baguio they can also access through the DOLE’s Employment Kiosks, either at the City Hall or to our regional office along Engineer’s Hill,” Dione said.
As part of the activity, DOLE-CAR also lined-up series of Mini-Jobs Fair one of which is just concluded mini-jobs fair alongside the Lang-ay Festival in Bontoc Mt. Province last April 5 and 6.
On Monday, April 12, there will also be a mini-jobs fair at the Benguet State University in La Trinidad, Benguet while another one is slated on May 20 in Abra.
As for the Labor Day Jobs Fair, Dione confirmed that they are inviting about 60 employers, local and overseas. For scheduled programs, there will be livelihood/diskwento fair, government service clinics, free-call services, skills demo and mini-skills competition, wellness service and entrepreneurial services for new graduates.
In a related issue, Dione also confirmed that call center agents tops employment vacancies nationwide. She said call center or Business Process Outsourcing companies in the city is continuously growing.
“At present we have about 2,000 workers in the call center and BPO business. Some of the these companies in the city are gearing up for expansion,” Dione added.
To help our new graduates and employment applicants, the Baguio City – Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in coordination with DOLE will also be holding a three-day English proficiency and Employment Coaching at the City Hall Multi-purpose Hall on April 12 to 14 from 8am -12nn. It is open to all interested individuals and with free registration.
Rounding-up the top ten employment vacancies, after call center agents, are: Customer Service Assistant, Professional Nurses, Technical Support Staff, Electrical Engineer, Human Resource Development Assistant, Information Technology (IT) specialist, Human Resource Development Clerk, Sales Clerk and Service Crew.
