San Juan La Union: A surfing hotspot


Are you looking for a good place for your next surfing expedition? If you are, try San Juan La Union, the surfing capital of the Ilocos region. This surfing area is gaining popularity among surfing enthusiasts. Local and foreign surfers troop to Ilocos because of the unique surfing experience this place can offer .

San Juan is known for its consistent intermediary quality surf. It has two unique seasons. One that spans from July to October and the other from November to March. The latter brings more consistent and bigger waves compared to the former period. Surfing is ideal for beginners and advance riders.

The surfing place is very accessible. You can travel by land. From Manila you can take a public transportation ride going to Ilocos. Most of the bus rides available are air conditioned. Travel time is around 6 to 7 hours. Alternatively, you can book a flight from Manila to San Fernando City. It takes only 50 minutes and another 20 minute ride from San Fernando City to San Juan, your main destination.

Your place to stay is not a problem. In San Juan alone, there are many dotting beach resorts to choose from. If you prefer to stay near the urban area, you can stay in San Fernando City. Peace and order situation is not an issue. The province of La Union is relatively a peaceful place. Moreover, local residents are friendly and cordial to visitors in the place.

Here is one tip for surfers. If you would like to cool down after a scorching surfing adventure, you can make a quick trip to Baguio City which is the summer capital of the Philippines. It is only 1.5 hours ride from San Juan.
